I love this deck so much!! Best purchase ever!!
I do have one tiny problem though; it is SUPER hard to get open while being gentle with the box, I have attached a picture with the little flaps on top. If you fold the flaps in just a tiny bit you can open it way easier.
On both my deck and my sister's I cut the side flaps just a bit so they no longer have the smaller bump and it is easier to open
Amanda T.
Love these cards so much!! I received them as a gift, and am absolutely thrilled with them. Cleaning my car has been on my mind for months, but I just would not do it. So, when it came up in the cards, I knew it was time. I can not wait to see what future adventures await me.
Corinne B.
Love them! They are great for deciding what to do with my day.
Douglas E.
Thanks for this amazing product! Such a clever and inventive way to encourage people to get out and explore, try new things, and bond. My daughter and I are enjoying this product very much. We have created 'Sidequest Sundays' for us to draw a new card and find time during the week to spend time together while we compete the side quest. I'm looking forward the next adventures from The Hero's Journal team.
Reagan C.
I ordered the Heroes Journey Side Quest cards, because I feel like I get stuck scrolling sometimes even though I desperately want to want to do out and do something fun. I love how the cards make these ordinary tasks seem like a game and they take the decision out of the dreaded after work question of “what should I do?”- which until now, ended up with me scrolling on my phone for hours. Love the product!
James W.
Love the deck, we just got it and drew our first couple cards! Excited to start completing some quests!
Thor S.
I bought this as a great way to spice up daily life and was not disappointed.
I found a great experience having a new sidequest to do everyday.
I would highly recommend this product
Great quality that you can feel
CATHLEEN E.
The side quests are fun and motivating.

1) What were you using to plan and track your goals prior to The Hero's Journal?
Nothing. I got the sidequest deck, and before that, when in a creative rut, I'd just...find something to do.
2) What made you willing to try us out?
I like gamification of mundane tasks, so the idea of a sidequest deck was really interesting. Also the art is really cute.
3) Have you enjoyed your experience with us?
Yeah, I'd say so
Kaitlynne V.
I got this as a birthday gift for my dad, but after reading through the prompts, I’m definitely getting one for myself as well.
Norm H.
Haven't gone through it much, and have had to skip a few side quests. Hopefully, I can return to them and complete them. They are very good, and keep me from getting in the "doldrums."
Kristen K.
I am moving abroad for my Masters degree and I finally decided to hit the buy button on this Hero's deck. I love games like Legend of Zelda and always go crazy with the side quests so this is right up my alley! I think this is a fantastic idea and I cannot wait to get more in the future :)
Johanna T.
As a working mom I have limited time to just 'do stuff' - and this deck makes it so easy to schedule in some spontaneity... if that makes sense.
Gina F.
I gave the side quest deck to a friend who was/is having some trouble feeling like herself. She’s a busy mom with a full time job and I wanted to give her something that would help her feel productive and help find herself again. She opened the deck when she got home and picked the card to organize all the files on her computer. She said she’s been meaning to do that for quite a few weeks and the card helped her get it done. She’s excited for more quests!
Royann M.
I got the 3-deck bundle and am glad I did. A lot more ideas to do. I'm using the decks probably different than expected. I lost my nephew 18 months ago. We were very close. There are times where I feel lost and not sure what to do next. I felt these cards would help jump-start me into new ideas. They have. I'd write more but I need to go build a blanket fort. lol Thank you!
Jeanette F.
1. I honestly didn’t have anything to plan or track my goals. I have several journal’s. None of them are completely filled, but hold my thoughts feelings and beliefs. Most are focused on the past or present, prayers and wishes, not the future or how to get there. I tried to keep track of all that stuff in my mind. It for sure gets lost on the Farris wheel of confusion. Distractions always win. I have never named my distraction, and over come them like adversaries.
2. I have always liked the idea of having adventures but fearful of them because to have an adventure means there has to be troubles to overcome. I don’t want troubles. Lol But they happen anyway, some big some small, the bigger the adventure the bigger the troubles sometimes. Lol I like the idea of looking at life like a quest and being my own hero to over come… it’s a new way of thinking. My therapist is always telling me to focus on self care. But sometimes I struggle with making a decision of what to do. The Side quest deck takes that struggle away from me and decides for me. All of the options in the deck are for self care.
3. Yes I really have enjoyed it. It’s only been a few days. But it’s nice and I get the dopamine rush from accomplishing small tasks, Instead of eating… which is something I need also.
Thank you.
I want to get all the journals. They are pricey but I know the amount of work that has gone into them. It was nice to be able to download the first 71 pages free. I am
Enjoying them. I think I will be purchasing soon.
Inara M.
I bought the heros Journal because I need something to motivate me to be more productive. I absolutely love the story and how it makes you feel good about completing tasks! It's like I'm writing an exciting book that helps me be a the better version of myself. I have been a lot more productive. I also bought the side quest cards. They remind me to do things I forgot I needed to do.
Jennifer P.
Looking forward to using this for the summer ☀️
Ryann
Shipped & arrived fast! Cards are cute, high quality — can’t wait to use them
Jacob L.
Quick delivery and everything was packed nicely. Cards look great! My wife and I are excited to share side-quests together!
Alyssa W.
About to start my Side Quest journey and so excited to see what I will get next!
Sophia M.
The deck is suuuper cute!!! (≧▽≦) I bought it as a gift so I haven't really tested it for myself, but I did have a look at the cards and it seems like a great way to spark motivation, without being to daunting! I will likely be purchasing more for friends and family (as well as myself)in the future! Totally recommend (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧
Daphne K.
This sidequest deck is the coolest thing ever! I get bored sometimes, and instead of scrolling on my phone or watching TV, I love to pick a card instead. It's much more productive and beneficial to my mental health. I'm glad I found this product.
Kelly C.
I love it!! I think the creativity and story-based functionality for goal setting and daily activities is spot on. I can see the psychology of functionality at play (example of future positive, future negative, present positive goal setting) and gratitude each day plus the planning ahead for what may get in your way. I've shown this off to over a dozen coworkers already as our company is very big on weekly accountability meetings toward hitting goals.
Elia M.
I haven't been able to find the motivation to get back into writing until I came across this journal! I can't wait to finish my journey!
Anna W.
I’ve been using the Hero’s Journal for a few months, and love it. I liked the idea of having the side quests for those times I have trouble knowing what to do next. So far they’ve been great!
Ethan A.
Love the idea of the product and everything I did not enjoy how you have several packs but don’t go into the differences of each one or simply have a pack for adventuring out or an active pack or something of that sort because I love some cards but wish all were more active or specific and would’ve wanted to get a pack that suits me best
Faith L.
I saw the side quest deck on Facebook and the concept intrigued me. I thought this might be a good way to push myself to connect with others, do some self care and reach outside my comfort zone. I just started drawing quests today and can’t wait to see where they lead me.
Emily G.
I really love it and it's fun to do! Thanks.
TRACY H.
Love the SideQuest Deck I ordered! These cards are just what I needed to add to my self-care routine! The quality is great and I know the cards will hold up for years to come!
Holly B.
I love this idea! I have been trying to get out of this cycle of inactivity for a while, and I think these cards are just the thing! I’m using them to make a fun TikTok series as well! Thanks! :)
Ash T.
I saw this by chance on social media, but I love it! I’ve always been a big role-playing person, and I have a hard time keeping up with starting life changes. This journal makes it fun! I’m excited to write in it everyday and add to my journey.
Sheilah R.
I actually bought this for my son for his birthday. He was thrilled with it. Thank you!
Christina F.
I made a separate Facebook so I could document my sidequests and what I accomplish through them. This has been so much fun and not just motivation but also mental well being. Thank you!
Jessica S.
I adore this deck. Most of the activities are relatively small and simple, but very supportive of mental and physical health. The pictures are really cute, quotes on each card are a nice touch, and the cards are high quality material that will last a long time. Each week, I draw one card and add the activity to my planner. I look forward to drawing a new card and seeing what I will do next.
Erin K.
This is such a neat product! It helps me so much when I just can't decide what I want to do and the goals are super fun to do alone or with a partner/friend/etc.
I almost feel that it doesn't necessarily need to be purchased with the journal as a set as it's just so nice to have on its own!
Leah
I love the side quest deck! I think it's a good mix of super simple/ slightly more involved tasks and the artwork is really cute. The cards are a little tough to get out of the box but they're thick and good quality. I like to use them for when I want to do something "productive" but not sure what. Me and my boyfriend have used them for date nights as well.
Cari J.
I’m disabled and on disability. I don’t really get out much because of it. I struggled with my mental health every day and had no motivation to do anything and that made me miserable. I found this journal on Tiktok and decided to try it out. The journal and sidequest deck have been such good tools to help improve my days! I love journaling every day now, and the format helps me be able to plan out my day based on how I’m feeling. It’s helped me be able to change my mindset into something more positive and productive. I’ve been more motivated lately and the journal has helped so much!
Melissa W.
I didn't receive my original order for this deck, because the postal service stuck it in the wrong mailbox. I want to thank John and his mages for sending me this replacement deck. It has now joined the Galaxy of Istoria SideQuest deck in giving me a daily dose of adventure.
Mindy M.
This is a great deck, I'm looking forward to doing more!
Victoria S.
I was on the restock wait list and I finally got my email! From shopping to shipping to receiving and using my journal. It was fantastic!
Lea M.
It is a lot of fun to do small daily sidequest. I really love the variaty of the quests. The quotes on the bottom of the cards always put a smile on my face. Well done!
Andrea M.
This deck is not only adorable but it gave me some good ideas of things to do when I get bored.
Jason R.
Customer support is a great part of The Hero's Journal experience. When my journal arrived I was excited and ready to use it because I had been primed by The Mentor. The journal layout inspired me to take action and take risks that I had not before. This product is one that gets used and makes real changes.
Becky F.
So in love with these sidequest decks. I struggle with motivation and am very task-oriented. So these cards take away the decision of what to do and make it super fun!
Laura M.
I have been eyeing getting a Hero’s Journal for a while and my boyfriend surprised me with a bundle for Christmas! I love the side quest decks, they make doing little things around the house so fun! I’m excited to really work through them and my new journal in the new year!
Jazzmyn M.
These are the bomb! I even put them in card protectors so they would last forever!
Lisa O.
The cards are not clearly marked on the decks of what they are. They all say Sidequest Deck and all have the nearly exact verbiage.
I HIGHLY recommend which deck is which - instead I have to go to the website and see which matches.
Aliyah Z.
It might be a bit personal but I recently haven’t been doing well. I struggle with severe depression, I saw a video of the Hero’s Journal side quest cards and I really wanted to try them and I’m so glad that I did! They have been so helpful!
Emilio M.
I bought this over the weekend and received it by Monday! Quick shipping, the card material feels great, and flipping through the cards, I can tell it’s going to really help me focus on getting things done for me and for my goals.
Tina C.
I ordered this as a Christmas gift my daughter requested. I can say the order arrived quickly and customer service was great. I'm sure she will love it.
Susanna C.
I got the SideQuest Deck for my husband and he really loves it! He's been in a bit of a rut lately and has days where even his favorite hobbies feel like a chore, and this has been great to get him up and moving and doing something. And the cards are really cute, which always helps!
Kaelie C.
Hello! I fell in love with this product the moment I saw it. I knew it would be perfect for me and my fiancée, two burnt out not quite millennial or Gen-Z adults. We love games and the idea of approaching life as heroes with side quests is so wonderful and life changing. It’s a Christmas present for him, so unfortunately no picture. But it’s okay. I’d rather order again when I can and support this business. What a fantastic, lovely, whimsical idea. Keep on keeping on everybody.
Wyatt B.
This is an awesome deck! I used to be exhausted after teaching all day, and I’d want to come home and just curl up. Now I draw a card on the way home, and get inspired. I’ve written a poem, cooked an awesome meal, done some art. It’s a wonderful creative and motivational tool!
Kelly V.
What a wonderful journal! Before using the Hero's Journal, I was using a regular bullet journal. But I wanted to devote more attention and care to a particular long desired goal and I wanted it to be done in the spirit of adventure and fun. This fits that want so perfectly. Thank you! I love the daily pages and the whole concept! And....the side quests are just the right kind of things to keep me balanced and on my journey!
Robyn M.
I bought just the Legend of Istoria Side Quest pack as I'm not currently focused on a goal. I wanted something to encourage me to get out and do things on the weekend rather than hang around the house.
There are a lot of cards in the deck which was great and the design is cute. They also have a really broad range of "quests" that range from simple & quick to more involved. Some are even more outward focused like the one I got to go pick up trash in the neighborhood.
My only negative feedback is the box is ridiculously hard to open to get the cards out. I won't close it back up again as I'm afraid I'll tear the box even more getting it open again
Teresa A.
Love using these to help break up a long project with something quick and fun to give my eyes and brain a break. Sometimes if I'm working on the same project for a long time, I get bored. But shuffling/picking one of these sidequest cards as something else to do every 30min or hour is a nice reset as well as reminder to do self-care during the day--and that it is very doable to add fun to your routine/work schedule!
Candace O.
I just received them today and very excited to use. I looked through them all and separated them into different categories "side quest", "challenge", "rewards", and"?".... Normal side quest for days I don't know what to do. The challenge is for days that I need more motivation to do more or do something I'm scared to do. The rewards are for another app I'm using that will periodically tell us to reward ourselves and I never know what to do. Finally the "?" Are the cards that are things I already currently do regularly or can't do without planning (such as board games.....I would have to plan with someone on my days off in advance) and plan on checking back on them every couple of weeks to see if it's something I can return to the deck or I'm still doing it.
Deborah J.
This is a Christmas present for my daughter. She has ADHD and thought it looked like it could help her. She doesn’t know but I’m sure she’ll be thrilled.
Gloria B.
Came across this and thought it would be a great gift for a friend going through a slump in life. Shipping was quick and arrived exactly as I expected! Going to definitely buy more as great gifts!
Denise S.
My daughter and I have coffee in the morning in different homes, I figured . I pick up two for a choice , message her side quest. If it help , great . Love the prompts . Being human is hard at times. Thanks
Jennifer T.
Love the different illustrations and choices in the deck. Cards seem like they will hold up nicely overtime too.
Robyn H.
It was amazing, I love it
Alejandra J.
I am in love of my journal!!! I even made a rubber stamp to give myself some extra points for completing the task. Just the fact that it motivated me to spend some me time doing something new was kind of amazing. Day 2 of my journey and I'm already accomplishing goals. The side decks are awesome. Tomorrow it'd a day off social media! Don't hesitate and buy your journal now!
Rita D.
I did my first card yesterday and it was great. I didn't think I could improve on what I was already doing but the cards take my journey to be happy to the next level.
KATHLEEN K.
I bought this for my daughter, as a way to encourage her to open up to little changes. She is working on a path (although she doesn't journal) and drawing a daily "side quest" is a fun way to explore an unexpected addition to each day.
Pamela E.
Quick delivery. Very good quality cards. I have every deck now and it’s a lot of fun to draw a card when I’m bored and want something fresh to do. I did go through and take out ones I am unable to do for whatever reason first tho. (For example, I have no car, so cleaning my car is an undoable quest) but I had a lot left I could do.
I also have a journal that I fill out almost every day. I’ll buy anything new they come out with, honestly.
Sarah W.
(I hope 5 is the top score, because I rated you all the Fives!)
Due to a sudden, unexpected health crisis, I retired and was put on disability. Depression followed, and I've been having difficulties in taking regular care of my health needs and feeling positive about my current life. I also stopped writing, crafting, etc. because it seemed too much effort.
I use the alarms on my phone to keep track of my meds and chores, but those were easy to ignore. I bought blank notebooks for To Do Lists, which means I have quite the collection of blank notebooks with one or two lists in them (All or nothing thinking, amiright?). I basically traded my followthrough for guilt about having no followthrough.
But I saw an online ad for the Hero's Journal and it caught my attention. I likfollow through. Style, the guided layout and the Eating the Frog philosophy (as a knitter, this also tickled me, as 'frogging'--unraveling stitches to redo mistakes--is a big part of making things). I thought about it for a month or two, then bought my first Journal and a few extra notebooks.
So far, I have been Journaling regularly (morning and evening, usually) for a month. I am establishing healthy habits that will help me with my condition, and am using the Frogs to rethink my strategies. I've started to add fun things to my Seizing of the Day, and have bought a pack of Side Quests to help keep me active (a limerick counts as a poem, right?) when I have time.
I have energy and more satisfaction now, and I'm enjoying my journey.
I even pre-emptively bought the Wizard's School Journal so I can easily continue on.
Thank you.
Erin C.
I love this idea. There is an excellent mix of things for you do do and work on. My only issue is a tiny one. I wish they were a bit more like a playing card texture/feel. The finish makes the cards stick together slightly and shuffling them is a bit awkward.
Keldon B.
I found these cards and loved them upon first glance. As a yoga instructor, i find there aren’t as many imaginative ways to see what is commonly looked at as “strenuous tasks”. This is a beautiful way to engage people who have a hard time feeling worthy of putting work and love into themselves. I especially think this will benefit a large population of people who feel too embarrassed or unworthy of discovering their inner child and letting it come out to play. I think these cards help with just that. I will be giving these as gifts to people I love, so thank you for creating such a creative and fun way to practice self care/love!
Kelly H.
Love this idea! For someone who struggles to think of ideas for self care, it's nice to have a repository of ideas to turn to
Brittany E.
My daughter and I love using these! They’re especially helpful for when she gets “bored” and can’t figure out what to do.
Jillian S.
Love these cards! They have been a fun way to get out of a rut and motivate myself. Will definitely be buying the other pack!
elina s.
So cute! What a great idea for those of us with executive functioning issues and anxiety/depression. A great way to get unstuck!
Aaron F.
I just unboxing now, but I am loving the durable design of the journal though I haven't got a good look st thr contents yet.
I especially like the Side Quest Deck and look forward to starting some tomorrow
Jenny L.
My first order went missing—it was the post office’s fault, but disappointing—so the company replaced the deck for me! Terrific customer service! And I LOVE the side quests! The other day I drew one—“Clean out your car”— and it really needed it, so I tackled that chore. I love the little motivations and the cards are pretty. Thank you!
Kimberly S.
Fun side quests for when I need a little nudge.
Sean H.
Excellent product. Helps me figure out how to spend some time each day!
Eileen H.
I pulled my first card a few days ago on a day where my anxiety was through the roof. It said “go visit a local attraction”. I called a friend and we went and found a lake with a walking path at a nearby college that we had been wanting to find and we walked two miles. It was exactly what I needed and something I wouldn’t have done otherwise. I would have holed myself up on my couch all day sitting in my anxiety.
Thank you Sidequest!
Rachael E H.
Enjoying the prompts to help break out of current lack of inertia.
Tawnya S.
My only wish is that you had a side-quest deck that was oriented to an academic journey. It would be something that gave scholars a break from studies to refresh but also gave them bite-size tasks to nudge them toward completing larger tasks. Some blank cards with suggestions for what to add to this particular type of journey would also be useful.
I hope to share from my journal when I've gotten further down the path. I'm still struggling to mount the pony while wondering if I packed a handkerchief.
Gwydion P.
Love this! I have so much fun with the quests
Rebecca A.
The cards are very cute and well done. The art is nice and the ideas are creative.
Boedy K.
My quest for today was to write a five star review and I thought it was a perfect opportunity to write a review for this. I got both decks and even have the new galaxy deck coming with my istorianaut bundle and they are all amazing. These cards have helped me and my friends to try new things and be creative/positive. The feel of the cards are very pleasant with a soft coating on them instead of the usual glossy slick feel of traditional playing cards. They arrived in the mail fairly quickly and packaged nicely. The artwork is vibrant and there are so many wonderful quotes on them. A little warning to people getting these, the box is a little tricky to open with how the two little tabs on the inside are shaped but once I opened it I took some scissors and just trimmed them a little (like less than a millimeter) and now it opens just fine. Other than that these are wonderful and I highly recommend both decks.
Reine M.
Love it! Helps keep me motivated to take on the day. Also, there’s not only tasks but fun rewards in too.
Natalie C.
The deck is great quality and the side quests are just what I was looking for. The cards are a little stiff but it's no deal breaker. The colors are vibrant and I love the quotes associated with each quest. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for something to help get you focused on accomplishing a goal without getting overwhelmed by making the choice yourself.
TASHA M.
I purchased both decks and today was our first card pull. My nephew and I both pulled a card from each deck and as you can see, it’s time to tidy up around the house. He’s working on his area and I’m working on my office space. He’s not grumbling about it either…it’s more of a challenge now. This is going to fun!
Carolyn B.
As a writer, I do a journal daily. I also have lots of experience with planners and have even taken classes for specific ones. The Hero's Journal is a delightful combination of both. I am currently researching the world of RPG for a novel. I'm old (pushing 70) so pretty much clueless about it. The journal has been surprisingly helpful in understanding the world I am trying to create. I set myself a quest (to conquer social media) and set out. Not only has it kept me on task, I've had fun doing it. I've even found myself coloring bits and piece here and there. Most importantly, it is helping me reach my goal. I plan to get another when this quest is done. If even a Baby Boomer finds it useful when that is clearly not the intend audience, The Hero's Journal is, indeed, a powerful tool.
Michael J.
Enjoying the side quest deck! Hoping to get the arcane one as soon as I hear it’s restocked!
Malissa L.
Great way to add some variety to my journals!
Lydia K.
I'm thrilled with my Side Quest Deck. It's full of great ideas to break up a stress feedback loop, or to add spice to a day off.
Maude A.
I really love these journals. I have the side quest cards which I will use for daily goals. Can’t wait for the space journal to come out
Alisha M.
Its nice to have a deck of small easy to take care of tasks for days when I need a little help getting going.
Amayah M.
LOVE the side quest deck. I ran into some roadblocks today with my tasks I had planned, but still was in "work-mode" and didn't want to relax. Whipped out my handy dandy quest deck and was assigned the noble quest of making my bed! So I did it. My next quest involved reading. Sometimes if I skip something on my to-do list, I'll add in a side quest. These prompts help me stay productive and caring for myself, super nifty. 5 stars
Jacob R.
This deck of cards saved my marriage!
Leah C.
The cards are great, but the case was really difficult to open and I had to rip it. Would be nice if this came in a case rather than a paper box that gets caught on itself.
Becka C.
Long story incoming!
I bought the Side Quest Deck for myself, and it has been helping me through my depression. I pick a card from the deck, and it’s some sort of organizational task, mindfulness activity, craft/creation task, or something that brings ultimately brings happiness. I made the rules for myself that I can’t put a card away to pick a new one until I’ve completed what I randomly selected. The 2nd card I ever picked was “organize the kitchen”. Let me tell you…this has been a task that’s been looming over my head for YEARS. I spent the past 2 weeks organizing, even though the sink would fill up with dishes and the counter would get dirty and filled with stuff again…I kept plowing through, cleaning and organizing, purging things we don’t need, etc. I finally got to the dreaded corner of the kitchen where things go to die. I’m too short to reach the depths of this corner, and I haven’t touched it in years. I purged all the useless cookbooks that just gather dust (gave them away on my local Buy Nothing Facebook group), deep cleaned, and came up with a plan to make this corner usable space. The picture for my review is what I am most proud of. Since purchasing this deck a month ago, I’ve completed 10 of the 52 cards. I am so thankful that I stumbled upon this deck through a TikTok video.
Thank you for creating a fun way to embrace my inner geek and provide a means to dig myself out of the depressive hole I am in. I cannot recommend this item more!!
Christina A.
I love my Sidequest Deck! I came across this on TikTok and it's a useful tool for the days when I feel unmotivated and don't know what to do. I love how whimsical it is! Highly recommend!
Jill W.
The heroes journal is so helpful for my son. He loves setting and achieving new goals with it as a guide, and it’s an incredible gift for people of all ages. Truly wonderful!
Sarah P.
I like this deck, it contains tasks that are well-being oriented but not strictly necessary. They are usually a managable size commitment, both in terms of energy and mental oversight. It is fun to be suprised by what you pull, and it is very helpful to have direction for when you have energy but no ideas. I think I would prefer if some of the cards had two or three tier levels, so you could pick the variant that best matches the day's functioning level. For example, yoga: option A: three poses or stretches
option B: 15 min yoga
